East Java On October 2011

The East Java’s Calendar of Events 2012 contains the schedule of some traditional ceremonies, traditions, festivals and performances which held in the cities and the regencies in East Java. It is designed to promote and to publicize the tourism agenda in the whole area in East Java.



It is important to inform that the local communities usually determine the schedules of the ceremonial events by using the calendars of Javanese, Moslem, and Hindu Tenggerese. Therefore, to assure the exact date of the events, it is advisable to confirm the local Government Tourist Offices.



We hope the East Java’s Calendar of Events 2012 will be helpful and useful for visitors and travelers.



OCTOBER


























9 October - SEMBONYO SEA OFFERING






In order to have good catch of fishing and to express thanksgiving to the Almighty God, the fishermen living around Prigi Beach and Karanggongso Village launches offering (food crops) into the sea and stages ritual procession, bamboo horse dance and leather puppet show.

Location: Prigi Beach, Trenggalek Regency.

























9 October - LONGKANGAN SEA OFFERING






In order to have good catch of fishing and to express thanksgiving to the Almighty God, the fishermen living around Prigi Beach and Karanggongso Village launches offering (food crops) into the sea and stages ritual procession, bamboo horse dance and leather puppet show.

Location: Blado Beach, Trenggalek Regency.

























9-10 October - KARO CEREMONY






It is a tradtional ceremony held by Tennggerese commmunity for seven days consecutively in the hope to keep alive the custom and tradition. It is highlighted with traditional dances like Sodoran, Ojung and Nyadran.

Location: Ngadisari, Probolinggo Regency

















































































11 October - CEPROTAN VILLAGE PURIFICATION






The traditional and ritual procession begins with a ritual offering continued by throwing young coconuts from one person to another between two groups. This event aims to commemorate the opening of Sekar Village.

Location: Donorejo, Pacitan Regency



14 October - BAGONG DAM PURIFICATION
To express thanksgiving to the Almighty God, the farmers that living around Bagong Dam area hold ritual ceremony dedicated to the dam initiator Menak Sopal. Visit his tomb, launch buffalo head into the sea, stage bamboo horse dance and leather puppet show. Starts at 05.00 am - 18:00 pm

31 October - SUMENEP REGENCY ANNIVERSARY
The celebration depicts the procession of Arya Wiraraja inauguration as the first regent in Sumenep and stages the cultural performances and traditional music involving artists and students.

Location: Sumenep Regency
October - BULL RACE IN PAMEKASAN
Grand Final of Bull Race

Location: Pamekasan
October - WARANGGANA GRADUATION
The inauguration of Waranggono (the dancers that having succeeded in learning Tayub dance) is held at the dance center of Langen Tayub Anjuk Ladang.

Location: Sambirejo, Nganjuk Regency

East Java October Events



The East Java Calendar of Events 2011 is designed to support the Indonesian government promotion "Visit Indonesia 2010" expecting the target of million foreign visitors to Indonesia. The Calendar of Events 2011 contains the schedule of performances like arts, cultures and religious ceremonies held in the regions through out East Java and it is also hoped to provide tourist information for domestic and foreign visitors.



Local people usually celebrate those events based on the calendar of Java, Tengger and Hijriah (Arabic) therefore to confirm the exact date of the events, the visitors, should contact the local tourists offices. We hope the East Java's Calendar of Events 2011 is useful for visitors and it can arouse the sense of belonging and care to keep alive the East Java culture and tradition.



October 12 - MAGETAN REGENCY ANNIVERSARY

To celebrate the anniversary of Magetan Regency, the local government performs Human Puppet, Bazaar and Kethoprak (traditional opera).

BULL RACE IN SUMENEP REGENCY

Bull racing is a traditional culture and photogenic sport in Madura Island which is very famous for Madurese people as the owner of the winning bull will socially be honored. It is highlighted with various Madurese traditional art performances such as Sapi Sonok (bull beauty contest), Saronen music, and mass dance. The races are held in all regencies of Madura Island (Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan, and Sumenep).

SUMEKAR TONG-TONG MUSIC FESTIVAL

Traditional musical instrument of Madura made of bamboo, which looks like percussion, is played together in groups at night. It is usually used for patrolling or to wake people to have early breakfast (sahur) in fasting month. Tong-tong music is now combined with other musical instruments like Klenengan (Javanese instrument), Tambourine, Saronen (Madurese flute) etc.

Location: Sumenep Regency.



October 31 - SUMENEP REGENCY ANNIVERSARY

Cultural performances and traditional music involving artists and students together stage the celebration of Sumenep Regency anniversary.
