Nasi Serpang
“Nasi serpang” or serpang rice is particularly traditional food from Madura. This traditional food is such an ancient heritage from Madurese culture that inherited declining for some generations. The ingredient in "Nasi serpang" is very rich and complete, seems like symbolized the diversity. "Nasi Serpang" is made from food ingredients of all over Indonesia, from coast to land.
The ingredients are include: rice, “pepes tongkol” or steam spicy tuna, saute scallop, “soun” or fried glass noddle, salted egg, “sambal terasi” or shrimp paste sauce, “rempeyek” or peanut brittle cracker. All of the ingredients are mixed up and the taste is unique, and of course, it is so yummy. It salty, sweet and spicy
Beside the ingredients in "Nasi Serpang", the way to cook the rice is also different and determain the deliciousness when we eat it. The flavors are derived not only from the best quality of raw rice but also the way cooling the rice.
The word Serpang derived from the the name of the place where this food were found. It is Serpang village, Arosbaya sub-district, Bangkalan regency, Madura. This village is quite a suburb area, approximately to the coastal area. The name of "Nasi Serpang" is coming from that area and already spread among other districts. When we think that we are lucky to have this food out of Serpang village, unfortunately, the taste will be different when we eat in Serpang itself. It is about the “genuine” factor that come up from the food that makes this "Nasi Serpang" from Serpang village is more delicious.
The walking vendor that selling "Nasi Serpang" is start from 05.00 in the morning. Usually, it located around the Chinatown or in the heart of Bangkalan city. The price is Rp. 7000 per portion and after less than 3 hours it will be sold out. The presentation to the buyer is placed in the banana leaf as a plate, it's traditional and unique, isn't it?
