Sendang Dhuwur
The impressive gateway of Sendang Duwur can be found on a hilltop not far from the coast at Paciran north of Lamongan or east of Tuban. The place name is taken from a Moslem Saint, Sunan Sendang, who was buried there in 1585. Sunan Sendang Duwur is one of the Islam spreaders in Java. His charismatic is the same as Wali Songo.
The stylistically decoration of the gateway is describe about the transition from ancient Hindu / Javanese to Moslem principles. The symbols of Hindu Majapahit lie alongside Arabic Calligraphy. The outer gateway to the graveyard has Bentar style and inside of the gateway has Paduraksa style. The beautiful woodcarving surrounds the main tomb. In the right and the left side of the wall is decorated with two giant heads from the black stone material. The pilgrims from all part of the region, often visit to this beautiful graveyard.

“Pecel Boeyatin” is one of “warung pecel” or pecel stall in Surabaya. This stall is already operated since 30 years ago and already famous among the Pecel fanatics. “Pecel Boeyatin” is located at Jalan Ketabangkali No. 51 Kayun, Surabaya, settled among the business center buildings in Surabaya. Hence, it is not surprising if we come to this stall during our lunch, and will always full.
As we know, that pecel is such Indonesian traditional salad and consist of green vegetables like string bean, bean sprout, cabbage, water spinach, spinach, “kembang turi” or Sesbania grandiflora and the dressing sauce is using spicy peanut sauce.
At glance, “Pecel Boeyatin” is just like an ordinary pecel in East Java, that make this pecel different is coming from the sauce. The spicy peanut sauce is made from Tuban particular peanut, mix up with the traditional spices like sugar, salt, chilli, galangale, makroot leave and some other spices.
Peanut from Tuban is different rather than other peanut, physicaly it is small and rather long, but it crispy and tasty. It is not be fried, but roasted when it prepared to be pecel sauce. Moreover, the peanut should not be smoothed by using a machine, but manualy because it can change the taste. That makes this “Pecel Boeyatin” different.
A portion of Pecel and rice is cost about Rp. 9000 per plate, this is not include the side dishes. We can choose the side dish that we want, like, empal or fried meat, tempe or soy bean cake, tahu or tofu, egg satay, gut satay, omlet, fried chicken and many more. This stall is daily open from 6 am to 21 pm, it depends on the customers.

“Pusat Pasar Ikan Hias” Gunungsari is an ornamental fish market located in Gunungsari street No. 79 Surabaya. This market was inaugurated by the previous regent of Bambang DH in August, 24 2010.
This market building is stands on an area of 1200 M2. It has two-story building that is so comfortable for the seller, the conditions on the second floor is still vacant, while on the first floor is seems full of stores.
This “Pusat Pasar Ikan Hias” is a shelter from the previous market which was located in Irian Barat street, Patua street and Jagir-Wonokromo street. By the existence of this market, the Surabaya local government try to accomodate the fish sellers which was spread among those streets to gather into one place, to make everything more convenient and more profit.
This building has 2600 meters square, in Phase I is ready to accommodate 70 people consisting of 55 merchants from Jl. Patua and 15 people from the seller in front of Singgasana Hotel. The building in phase I also has Wi-fi equipped. For Phase II, it can accommodate for 80 people of fish traders from Jl. Rian Barat and 15 food and beverage vendors, which has been trading in the central area of ornamental fish.
For those who are fanatic to fish, any kind of fishes are available in this market, complete with all the accessories that related with it. There are numbers of marvelous fishes that we can bring to our own aquarium, both from fresh water and sea water. Inside The Lighthouse
Bangkalan Lighthouse
Mercusuar Bangkalan or Bangkalan Lighthouse, is located in District Socah, 6 km from the center of Bangkalan capital. This tower has 78 meters high and was build by the Dutch and it inaugurated by Z.W. Williem III in 1879. At that time, this tower was use to guide the ships that went to Tanjung Perak harbor.
Before entering the gate to go inside the lighthouse, we have to buy retribution fee for about Rp. 5000 per person. This tower has 17 floors building and the range of lights about 20 miles. While the total land area of this lighthouse is about 1 hektar. There are 3 navigators in this tower to maintain the tower, they live around the complex of the tower.

Looking At Geger Hill
Geger Hill Bangkalan
Geger hill is located approximately 30 km southeast of the City Bangkalan, precisely in the village of Geger, District Geger. This hill is located at an altitude of about 150-200 meters above sea level.
According to the folk legend, Geger hill was the first place that had been visited by the first civilian who came in Madura. On 7-8 Century, it was Patih Pranggulan from Mendangkawulan kingdom in the the foothill of Semeru became the first man who landed in Planggirân ( a set of rocks) in Geger hill. At that time he came together with Princess Dewi Ratna Roroagung, the daughter of Mendangkawulan king, and she was pregnant.
Both Patih Pranggulan and Princess Dewi Ratna Roroagung which was called as Putri Koneng or Koneng princess was castaway. At geger hill, the princess Koneng was always did meditation at the edge of the cliff, everyday before the sunset. Now, the rock that seems like chair is being called as Palènggiyân (Madura).
Relating the folk legend above, in geger hill, there are five legendary caves in the form of Madurese language, like Petapan cave (the cave for meditation), Goa Potre (princess cave ), Goa Planangan (men cave), Goa Pancong Pote (white lynch cave) and Goa Olar (Snake Cave).
Up to now, in that location there are some visitors from Madura or the outside Madura come to those sites doing some meditating or praying, the local people call this as Tirakatan.
Geger hill is such a potential destination in Madura, for it has camping ground for those who want to explore more about this hill. Moreover, there is also Acacia forest, Mahogany forest and Teak forest that covering 42 hectares of the hil. We can see the beautiful rice field and some lakes over the sightseeing and a resort on the hilltop of Pelanggiran site. Furthermore, it become more potential to be the tourism destination in Bangkalan because this site is having the historical background of the first founding of Madura.

The walking vendor that selling "Nasi Serpang" is start from 05.00 in the morning. Usually, it located around the Chinatown or in the heart of Bangkalan city. Geger hill is located approximately 30 km southeast of the City Bangkalan, precisely in the village of Geger, District Geger. This hill is located at an altitude of about 150-200 meters above sea level.
According to the folk legend, Geger hill was the first place that had been visited by the first civilian who came in Madura. On 7-8 Century, it was Patih Pranggulan from Mendangkawulan kingdom in the the foothill of Semeru became the first man who landed in Planggirân ( a set of rocks) in Geger hill. At that time he came together with Princess Dewi Ratna Roroagung, the daughter of Mendangkawulan king, and she was pregnant.
Both Patih Pranggulan and Princess Dewi Ratna Roroagung which was called as Putri Koneng or Koneng princess was castaway. At geger hill, the princess Koneng was always did meditation at the edge of the cliff, everyday before the sunset. Now, the rock that seems like chair is being called as Palènggiyân (Madura).
Relating the folk legend above, in geger hill, there are five legendary caves in the form of Madurese language, like Petapan cave (the cave for meditation), Goa Potre (princess cave ), Goa Planangan (men cave), Goa Pancong Pote (white lynch cave) and Goa Olar (Snake Cave).
Up to now, in that location there are some visitors from Madura or the outside Madura come to those sites doing some meditating or praying, the local people call this as Tirakatan.
Geger hill is such a potential destination in Madura, for it has camping ground for those who want to explore more about this hill. Moreover, there is also Acacia forest, Mahogany forest and Teak forest that covering 42 hectares of the hil. Mercusuar Bangkalan or Bangkalan Lighthouse, is located in District Socah, 6 km from the center of Bangkalan capital. This tower has 78 meters high and was build by the Dutch and it inaugurated by Z.W. Williem III in 1879. At that time, this tower was use to guide the ships that went to Tanjung Perak harbor.
Before entering the gate to go inside the lighthouse, we have to buy retribution fee for about Rp. 5000 per person. This tower has 17 floors building and the range of lights about 20 miles. While the total land area of this lighthouse is about 1 hektar. There are 3 navigators in this tower to maintain the tower, they live around the complex of the tower.
The function of the navigation lasts until 1999. Stepping in 2000, the lighthouse finally allowing the local people to get into the building of the lighthouse. This become the attraction of the citizens and become an alternative destination when we go to Madura island, especially to Bangkalan to enjoy the sceneries from the top of the lighthouse.

Semanggi or sometimes being called as pecel semanggi, is one of Surabaya traditional culinary. This food is rare to be found, and tends very difficult to find. The problem is about the limitedness of the semanggi or clover leaves as the main ingredient.
The seller who sell Semanggi is commonly middle-aged ladies who walk around the menu by lifting up the basket while making some particular noise like "Semanggiiiiiii" in order to let the people know their existence.
The ingredient in pecel semanggi is, of course, Semanggi leave (Marsilea crenata) or boiled clover leaves, there is also boiled bean sprouts. Those leaves are completed by the seasoning sauce that made of boiled sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) mix with palm sugar, salt, shrimp paste, little bit peanut and chili. Mix all the ingredients until it form of sauce.
This pecel served without rice, only clover and bean sprouts vegetables which sprinkled the seasoning sauce and served in banana leaf Pincuk, it is kind of banana leaf that folded and used as kind of plate. There is no spoon or fork to eat this food but krupuk. We can eat this pecel semanggi using particular cracker called kerupuk puli. This cracker is made of rice, some Javanese people call this cracker as kerupuk gendar. This cracker is large enough, and we can just chunk the cracker to be the spoon and eat together with the dishes.
The vendors are mostly from Benowo area, west of Surabaya. Because of the difficulty of the raw materials of clover leaf, the seller is selling uncertainly. Sometimes once a week, sometimes every two weeks. The clover leaf that used is not a wild clover, which is commonly grows in rivers and rice fields, but it purchased from a person who cultivates this clover.
If we lucky, we can find this food in some restaurants or stalls, but the originallity is coming from those ladies who carry away their menu in the middle of modernity vendor that walking around the city. We should be so proud to them anyway.
The price is similar between those walking ladies, which is cost around Rp. 3,500 per pincuk. But if we buy semanggi in restaurant or stalls in will cost Rp. 8,500 -- Rp. 10,000 per pincuk. Convenient takes more price.
The ladies who carry the basket and sell semanggi have particular outfit that signify the semanggi seller. They always wear batik cloth and kebaya, a traditional Javanese cloth, complete with scarf that wrapped over their head in such a way to be a base on the basket when it lifted up.
One hand is holding the merchandise on the head, while the other hand is carrying a basket containing banana leaves to be a Pincuk and other gear. Sure it takes incredible balance so that the merchandise is not spilled out.

Sate klopo Ondomohen is officially trade marked by Bu Asih, located in the alley of Ondomohen, Magersari II, Walikota Mustajab street, Surabaya, East Java. This food is being famous among Surabaya people who are fanatics of Sate.
Sate or satay or sometimes written satai is food made from pieces of meat, like chicken, goats, sheep, cows, pigs, fish, etc. that are cut into small pieces, and pierced with skewers prick which is usually made of bamboo, then burnt using charcoal embers. Sate is then presented with a variety of seasonings sauce, which depends on satay recipe variations.
Hence, Indonesia have some numbers of satai, which derive from the material or the seasoning. Sate klopo is particularly satai that made from meat which cover with coconut sprinkle. Then it burn like any other satai. You can choose rice or cake rice or lontong to complete your dish. Moreover, there will be Poya or Serundeng in your rice or lontong. Beside meat, you can choose other part of the meat like the marrow, fat, muscle, or intestine to be Satay Klopo. The dressing sauce is made of peanut sauce. The taste of the sauce is not too sweet and spicy enough, but there will be some chili bean added for those who like more spice
According to Mrs. Asih, this business was begin since 1945 that founded by her mother in law. This stall is open daily start from 6.30 until 23.00. The preparation before it open is since 01.00 in the morning and there will be lots of visitors crowdedly come to eat sate klopo. Mrs. Asih will gain profit Millions Rupiah a day.
Every day Mrs. Asih spends not less than 25 kg of beef or about 2,500 skewers. The cost to enjoy this sate is about Rp. 16.000 per portion for whole meat sate without lontong. There will be Rp.3000 more for lontong or rice. The price is different among other meat.
The place to enjoy sate klopo is situated around the shady Surabaya, which is there are lots of trees in here and there and that makes the cozy atmosphere when enjoying the dishes for your lunch. Do not worry about the smokes that puffing out from the roasting, there is kind of chimney that sucking in the smoke, moreover, it smells good anyway.

“Wadjah Lama Soerabaia 1890-1940” is an exhibition that performing Surabaya old pictures which was happened from 1890-1940. This exhibition is held in Graha Wismilak from 18 November – 25 November 2010.
It is Said Faisal Basymeleh, the owner of 150 framed photographs of some 2000 collection, that has the idea to showing off the old pictures of Surabaya, which is supported by Von Faber Cagar Budaya, Surabaya Heritage and Graha Wismilak.
Said Faisal Basymeleh was just a Philately, but his hobby brings many more advantages and become significant cultural heritages for this day.
His passion to collect stamps begins when he visited the Netherlands in the 90's. He found a pictorial stamp of sarong shop owned by his grandfather on Panggung Street. He was touched, and he bought it.
It turns out that hobby did not stop until nowadays. He still keeps on searching for Surabaya photos at past times. In fact, he helped by his friends who living in the Netherlands to collect those classic photographs.
Most of the collection he got from Netherland, specially from Netherland Antique Shop. This could be because of the Netherlands was colonizing Indonesia, that makes the goods are about Indonesia.

Sate klopo Ondomohen is officially trade marked by Bu Asih, located in the alley of Ondomohen, Magersari II, Walikota Mustajab street, Surabaya, East Java. This food is being famous among Surabaya people who are fanatics of Sate.
Sate or satay or sometimes written satai is food made from pieces of meat, like chicken, goats, sheep, cows, pigs, fish, etc. that are cut into small pieces, and pierced with skewers prick which is usually made of bamboo, then burnt using charcoal embers. Sate is then presented with a variety of seasonings sauce, which depends on satay recipe variations.
Hence, Indonesia have some numbers of satai, which derive from the material or the seasoning. Sate klopo is particularly satai that made from meat which cover with coconut sprinkle. According to Mrs. Asih, this business was begin since 1945 that founded by her mother in law. This stall is open daily start from 6.30 until 23.00. The preparation before it open is since 01.00 in the morning and there will be lots of visitors crowdedly come to eat sate klopo. Mrs. Asih will gain profit Millions Rupiah a day.
Every day Mrs. Asih spends not less than 25 kg of beef or about 2,500 skewers. The cost to enjoy this sate is about Rp. 16.000 per portion for whole meat sate without lontong. There will be Rp.3000 more for lontong or rice. The price is different among other meat.

The Lady Selling Semanggi Suroboyo

Semanggi or sometimes being called as pecel semanggi, is one of Surabaya traditional culinary. This food is rare to be found, and tends very difficult to find. The problem is about the limitedness of the semanggi or clover leaves as the main ingredient.
The seller who sell Semanggi is commonly middle-aged ladies who walk around the menu by lifting up the basket while making some particular noise like “Semanggiiiiiii” in order to let the people know their existence.
The ingredient in pecel semanggi is, of course, Semanggi leave (Marsilea crenata) or boiled clover leaves, there is also boiled bean sprouts. Those leaves are completed by the seasoning sauce that made of boiled sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) mix with palm sugar, salt, shrimp paste, little bit peanut and chili. Mix all the ingredients until it form of sauce.
This pecel served without rice, only clover and bean sprouts vegetables which sprinkled the seasoning sauce and served in banana leaf Pincuk, it is kind of banana leaf that folded and used as kind of plate. There is no spoon or fork to eat this food but krupuk. We can eat this pecel semanggi using particular cracker called kerupuk puli. This cracker is made of rice, some Javanese people call this cracker as kerupuk gendar. This cracker is large enough, and we can just chunk the cracker to be the spoon and eat together with the dishes.
The vendors are mostly from Benowo area, west of Surabaya. Because of the difficulty of the raw materials of clover leaf, the seller is selling uncertainly. Sometimes once a week, sometimes every two weeks. The clover leaf that used is not a wild clover, which is commonly grows in rivers and rice fields, but it purchased from a person who cultivates this clover.
If we lucky, we can find this food in some restaurants or stalls, but the originallity is coming from those ladies who carry away their menu in the middle of modernity vendor that walking around the city. We should be so proud to them anyway.
The price is similar between those walking ladies, which is cost around Rp. 3,500 per pincuk. But if we buy semanggi in restaurant or stalls in will cost Rp. 8,500 – Rp. 10,000 per pincuk. Convenient takes more price.
The ladies who carry the basket and sell semanggi have particular outfit that signify the semanggi seller. They always wear batik cloth and kebaya, a traditional Javanese cloth, complete with scarf that wrapped over their head in such a way to be a base on the basket when it lifted up.
One hand is holding the merchandise on the head, while the other hand is carrying a basket containing banana leaves to be a Pincuk and other gear. Sure it takes incredible balance so that the merchandise is not spilled out.

The Historical Jembatan Merah
Jembatan Merah Surabaya
Jembatan Merah or Red Bridge was formed above an agreement of Pakubowono II of Mataram by VOC since 11 November 1743. In the agreement mentioned that some northern coast areas, including Surabaya, handed over into VOC. Since then Surabaya was under Dutch colonialism. Since then, the Red Bridge area was a commercial area and Jembatan Merah became the only way road to connect Kalimas and Surabaya Residency Building and considered as the very important facility. In this place, Brigadier Mallaby (head of the British armed forces) were killed.
Red bridge was physically changes occurred around the 1890's, when the boundary fence was river changed from wood into iron. Nowadays, the condition of the bridge that connects Rajawali street and Kembang Jepun Street on the north side of Surabaya is almost exactly the same as any other bridge, with red color as particular.
Around the bridge, there are some Dutch heritage buildings which are still exist in the south of Red Bridge. Today those buildings change the function as a tabloid newspaper office in Surabaya, the post office and Pelni office. Moreover, there are also economic centers around the bridge that remaining famous, such as the Red Bridge Plaza and others commercial center.
Jembatan Merah was once the living witness of Indonesian soldier, especially for Surabaya heroes that struggling fight the Dutch colonialism. The museum collects and displays health historical items since the earlier time until now. Formally on September 14, 2004, the Minister of Health inaugurated the museum and named "Health Museum of Dr. Adhyatma, MPH - MOH".
In regard to these efforts, have also realized even more advanced age, more sophisticated technology, but the nation's ancestors heritage, including the health culture can not simply left.
Therefore, the Health Museum, expected to become a medium of education or the health center learning for the public and the scientific community who care about health effort.

This museum has equipped with a "special library" which collects and serves all library materials: books, magazines, recording tapes, video footage and others. Library materials allows for the deepening of cultural studies in health.

This Sasana presents various collections of the late Dr. Adhyatma MPH when he served as Minister of Health in 1988 untill 1993. There is also a collection of inscriptions.
2. Sasana Kencana (Kencana Room)
In this room exhibited a variety of historical objects of decoration, badges of precious metal, a letter of appreciation and so on related health struggle. In the room was also presented the history and health profile of the museum pioneer.
3. Sasana Kespro (Reproduction Health Room)
Storing and displaying various items / equipment of reproduction health including; the health of mothers and children from different cultures or cultural, pregnancy health, childbirth and family planning.
4. Sasana Genetika (Genetics Room)
In this room and show the various genealogy lineage that is closely related to genetics of a dynasty, such as genealogy of various royal families in Indonesia.

Sanggar Agung, Tri Darma Temple
Kelenteng Sanggar Agung Surabaya
Klenteng Sanggar Agung or Hong San Tan tempke is a temple for Buddhist, Tao and Kong Hu Cu followers. Located in Sukolilo Street 100, Kenjeran Beach.
Like any other temples that we can find, Sanggar Agung temple has particular in design and also in its atmosphere, the design is very unique and quite sophisticated. From the very inside of the building, the back side is outstandingly amazing with the great goddess of Kwan Im Pouw Sat statue and four status for the guardians, which is one them is Kwan Kong, the god of war. The are also two dragons statue over the goddess and the guardians that look strong and firm in 6 meters long. The Kwan Im statue has 20 meters high, and look nice over the beauty of the masterpiece. Those statues are build after less than 2 years from the temple was build.
While, the statues that standing to be the worship statues in Sanggar Agung are, on the left side is Cai Shen Ye, the prosperity God; Guang Sen Di Jong or Kwang Kong, the god of war; Fu De Zheng Shen, the god of happiness and longevity; at the center is Guan Shi Yi Pu Sa or Kwan Im, the goddess of wisdom. On the right side there is, Xuan Tiang Shang Di, the god of medicine; Tai Shang Lao Jun, the god of earth or the founder of Taoism; Tian Shang Sheng Mu, the god mother. Each of them have its own altar to be the worship places among the followers.
The visitors who come to this temple are not only from the followers, but also from those who want to visit and have a look for the temple, adoring the building or taking some photograph. This temple is now become one of the tourism destinations instead of to be the pilgrimage sire in Surabaya, especially for those who give visit to Kenjeran beach, they must be spend the time to Sanggar Agung. Kenjeran and fisheries products is connected, regarding that it is near to the coast. Most of the inhabitants are living by being fishermen and selling the products. One of those products are lies over the Old Kenjeran, which is Krupuk.
Most of society has long been cultivated as a food processed seafood. Because those foods are typically high protein snacks and the way to process is quite complicated, these crackers are quite expensive for its values.
There are so many types of crackers that being offered by the local inhabitants, and most of them are sea products. For instance, sea cucumber cracker, shrimp crackers, fish cracker, oyster crackers, razor cramp and many more.
The price is vary from each crackers, like Rp. 100.000 / kilo for sea cucumber crackers or Rp. 7500-20.000 / kilo for razor cramp.
Among those crackers, sea cucumber cracker is the most special cracker. This cracker is different from another crackers, even though both are made by ocean animal skin. But this is a beast eggplant seabed, which is breed well at a depth of 15 to 100 meters under the sea.
This eggplant is has round shape like a tennis ball, with a diameter of 5 cm - 15 cm and his body covered by mucus. It is complicated enough to catch, if it is not accompanied by any special equipment, the local community called "Garet", who ends his pointy like a hook.
Sea cucumber cracker has long been known among the community of the coastal town of Surabaya, it is not sure when were the early begin to be the particular Kenjeran food, but the inhabitant start to cultivate this snack from their ancestors.
By producing the sea cracker products, Kenjeran inhabitant gain a lot of profit, which is around Rp. 5-10 million per week. This will be more on Idul Fitri, it can reach over Rp. 25 million.
