East Java On March

The East Java’s Calendar of Events 2012 contains the schedule of some traditional ceremonies, traditions, festivals and performances which held in the cities and the regencies in East Java. It is designed to promote and to publicize the tourism agenda in the whole area in East Java.



It is important to inform that the local communities usually determine the schedules of the ceremonial events by using the calendars of Javanese, Moslem, and Hindu Tenggerese. Therefore, to assure the exact date of the events, it is advisable to confirm the local Government Tourist Offices.



We hope the East Java’s Calendar of Events 2012 will be helpful and useful for visitors and travelers.

2 March - JALANIDHIPUJA SEA OFFERING
The religious rituals of Hindu society that are consecutively held in 3 days before Nyepi holiday on the beach of Balekambang. The ceremony launches offerings to the sea to express thanksgiving and pray together to drive away the evil spirit.

30 March – 4 April - OFF ROAD COMPETITION

The Pudel Show On Taman Safari Indonesia II

Taman Safari Indonesia II is located in Jatirejo Village, Prigen sub-district, Pasuruan regency. This venue having an elevation between 800-1500 above sea level.



Taman Safari Indonesia II was designed with two concepts in mind, combining modern zoo tourism with an area of natural beauty.

It was opened for the public on December 29, 1997 by Governor of East Java Bpk. Basofi Sudirman. At that time it held about 900 animals from 125 different species. Now the collection has more than 2500 animals from 200 different species.



This object is a wildlife sanctuary conservation and institution that occupies an area of 340 ha. It can be reached about an hour from Surabaya or Malang. The visitors can watch wildlife as their natural habitat, based on where its life, which is divided into 4 sections: Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa section.



Moreover, there are 3 other zones, which is, the animal life, the recreation zone as a place to show the attraction of wildlife and children's play ground. There is also, the baby zoo zone and Water World which features adventure swimming with crocodiles, to encloser the kids with the animals and the visitors can take some pictures on it.



Beside the facilities that provided by the managementm Safari Park is also having 2 packages that can be offer to ther visitors, which is Education Package and Outbound Package. According to the tag line that it has, “Concervation, Education And Fun”, Safari Park II has already complete the things that needed to make the living concervation.



For the visitors who do not use private cars, the management in the Safari Park Prigen provide special vehicle that would take them around throughout the protected forests. The visitors are not allow to give anything to the animals like, vegetables or snacks, in order to keep the savety among the visitors and the animals. Furthermore, while on the restrictive area like in wild beast zone, the visitors ar not allow to open the car window, for it can make dangerous to themselves.

Blawan Waterfall

Blawan Waterfall is located in Kalianyar village, Sempol district. It is about 52 km of Bondowoso town. Blawan Waterfall is the continuation of Kali Pahit River, which is also the disposal place of the water from Kawah Ijen, which contains of much sulfur. The water from Blawan Waterfall goes down to the earth then it shows up again in Asembagus, Situbondo district.



Blawan waterfall is surrounded by sharp cliffs and there is also stalagmite cave. It is believed that a long time ago this cave was often used for meditate. There are also macadamia plants in this area. Besides Blawan Waterfall, there is also a hot water spring for bathing in this tourism area. The tourism facilities are including; a shelter, hotels, etc.

Around Coban Baung

Sanggrahan Temple

Sanggrahan temple or Kuncup temple ws a Buddhist worship temple, the location is in the Sanggrahan Village, Boyolangu District, Tulungagung, East Java. The temple is square and consists of buildings, body and roof. This temple was the relics of the Majapahit Kingdom, it was built around 1350, was once become a temple to keep the ashes of Majapahit King's relatives.



The temple complex is located on the settlements that is quite fertile, and consists of three buildings, each of which is no longer intact. In general, the temple complex is comprises a main building and 2 pieces of the small remaining buildings. The main building has length 12.60m, width 9:05 m, height 5.86 cm. This building consists of four levels, each of which had a square floor plan with the roof facing to the west.



The small building is located on east side of the main building and it is just the bottom part left. Materials that used in its building is brick. In this place, it used to have five statues of Buddha that each of them have different mudra position. For security from theft, the statues are now stored in the temple's keeper.



Folk legend said that this temple was a place that used for the rest of his entourage that carrying the Gayatri corpse (Rajapadmi), who was a female Buddhist priest (Bhiksumi) in period of the Majapahit kingdom, Hayam Wuruk Government. The body was taken from the Kingdom of Majapahit to be burning ceremony at a place around Boyolangu.

Going To Gili Ketapang Island

Gili Ketapang is an island that is North Sea of Probolinggo. It has beautiful scenery and there are many sands in the east and south of this, unpolluted and bluish. There are many kinds of colorful corals. It is about 5 miles from Ujung Tembaga port and takes 30 minutes by boat. The population is 7.600, the most of them are Madurese and almost 90% are fishermen.



Beside its scenery, there is also “Goa Kucing”. According to historical, this is the rest place of Syech Ishaq, a person who spread Islam from Blambangan, Banyuwangi. At that time, there are thousands cats, but finally the cats are gone everywhere. Up to know, on Friday “Legi”, the sound of those cats is heard from the dark cave and it will lose when we are trying to find it.



The other unique of this island is people believe that this island have a mysterious power, which can move to the middle of sea. According to them, when Semeru Mountain had exploded, there was an earthquake and the land of Ketapang village had separated to middle of sea about 5 miles from Probolinggo. Because of that, people call this island “Gili Ketapang”. Gili comes from Madura language, which means, “Flow” and “Ketapang” is the name of the village.

Reog Ponorogo

Reog Ponorogo



Reog is a traditional dance that become the main identity for Ponorogo regency. Because of this, Ponorogo is also known as Reog city. This theatre has been known wide in Indonesian even foreign tourists.



Reog National Festival is held every years along the anniversary of Ponorogo regency and Grebeg Suro celebration.

Reog dance is also staged full moon nightly in paseban, Ponorogo Town Square.



Reog told about the struggle for a prince who will propose to a lovely pretty princess .

This dance is staged about 25 - 40 dancers and the musician.

The interesting of Reog is his main leading figure named Singo Barong.



The dancer of Singo Barong bear the mask about 30 - 40 kg weight and supported by the strength of their teeth.

The other leading figure in Reog include Kelono Sewandono, Bujang Anom, Jatil and Warok.



The visitors can enjoy this traditional dance only in Ponorogo, East Java - Indonesia. The only area that has REOG dance is Ponorogo, not in other country.

Tanggulangin leather industry, is an industrial for bags, luggage and products related and become an icon for Tanggulangin district. This industrial was begin in 1939, when some craftsmen started making bags and suitcase stuffs. And in 1976 it was established the Bags and Luggage Cooperative Industrial (Intako), which was initially consisted of only 27 people.



The venture capital is obtained from members' savings. On its way, the cooperative continued to grow and the members has reached 354 crafters of Small and Medium Enteprises with the assets about Rp 10 billion.



Unfortunately, after the Lapindo mudflow it almost 70 percent of crafters in Tanggulangin already bankrupt. Some of them who still survive are only work for orders.



Tanggulangin bags and suitcases manufacture is one of the tourism icons in Sidoarjo. The products include bags, briefcases, wallets, belts and shoes. The products are having good quality that has been recognized by consumers.



Tanggulangin leather industry is having the same concept like in Cibaduyut leather industry in West Java. The area is full of leather fashion stores that offer some particular design into the display wall. Hence, the customers will enjoy their window shopping before entering the chosen store. On each stores, the products are having competitive price among others and having the same quality in design or pattern.



If we are going down further into the village, we will find more home industrial. Basically, the villagers are live as leather craftsman, then they opened a small shop to market their products that can easily be visited by prospective buyers.



Formerly, Tanggulangin leather industry tends to produce luggage, but at the time goes by the bags productions are dominating the whole productions. It happens because the main potential buyers are women, who tend to look for the beauty fashion bags and clutch for their own.



Today, Tanggulangin leather industry is still exist to show their capability to produce more and more products to their consumers that give trust to them. Hopefully, by the existing of those craft men will bring the proper and better living for Sidoarjo people.

Sunan Derajat Grave Lamongan

Sunan Derajat Grave



Sunan Drajat is one of the charismatic of an Islam spreaders in Java who is called Wali Songo. He was very intelligent man and people called him Raden Qosim. His father, Sunan Ampel sent him to Aceh and Mocca to study Islam. After finishing his study, he taught Islam at the north coast of Java especially at Paciran, Lamongan.



As a religious teacher, Sunan Drajat was known as the social Moslem who paid much attention to the poor. He developed the social welfare first then he taught his doctrines. To respect his great struggle, the local government of Lamongan Regency built a museum in the complex of the cemetery and it was officially opened by the governor of East Java on March, 31 1992.



This grave is located at Paciran village, Lamongan district. Generally, the pilgrims of this grave are domestic tourist. Besides, tourists from Asian countries also often visit it. The facilities that the tourists can get in this graveyard are; parking area, mosque, restaurants, rest place and bathroom. Those facilities are prepared for the tourists, in order to get their pleasure to come to this place.

Officially opened in 1987, it was built for the purpose of displaying and preserving the ever increasing number of historical treasures discovered in the vicinity of the old Majapahit capital. Covering a spacious area of some 57,625 square metres, this new site accommodates the collection of the old Trowulan Museum, as well as the bulk of the stone sculpture which used to be housed in the museum of Mojokerto.



Among the objects on display, a few deserve special mention, notably the famous portrait statue of Airlangga as Wishnu on Garuda, from Candi Belahan; a winged figure which is said to portray the legendary king of Blambangan, Menak Jinggo; and a part of a temple from Ampelgading, Malang, displaying the story of Samodramanthana in finely carved relief.

Inside The Monkasel Surabaya

SUBMARINE MONUMENT SURABAYA



As you continue on your journey, visit the Monkasel, the original KRI Pasopati 410 submarine next to the Surabaya Plaza shopping center. It is 76.6 meters long and 6.3 meters wide. It was moved from Ujung to this location on July 1st, 1995, after the museum was officially opened by Arief Kushariadi, the Naval Commander of the Republic of Indonesia on June 27, 1998.



KRI. Pasopati with 410 side number belongs to SS type whiskey class built in Vladivostok Russia in 1952. It has been with Indonesia Navy since 29 January 1962 and carried out dutief to destroy enemy line, to be surveillance and acts as silent raids. KRI. Pasopati bought ctivelly for independence and national supremacy in the past. It was the front line during Trikora Operation, gave psicological presure so that west Irian could be gain back and other important operation.



The following month, on July 5, 1998, it was opened to the public as a marine tourist destination. Boats and a diorama also complete the monument, which also functions as a museum. The visitors who want to travel by boat along the Kalimas River to view the monument can launch from ‘"Prestasi Park" behind the Grahadi Governor Mansion.



Monkasel is equipped with a multimedia building which presents a program in recognition of the Indonesian Navy. Monkasel is open from Monday through Friday from 0830-2200 WIB.
